e) Adjusting Bridge Tilt

Besides the manufacturer’s recommended specifications, the bridge angle can be adjusted for usability and preference. Do you want full tremolo function? Do you want to use the bridge to bend the strings up and down? By how much? The bridge will need clearance to do this, which is set by the overall height and the corresponding angle. The more upward pull you want, the more you will need to set your bridge angle to accommodate.

1 to 1.5 steps (the equivalent to 1-3 notes) is a standard setup. If you prefer to have a one-way, vintage tremolo, adjust the bridge posts so that the bridge sits flat on the guitar body (see previous photo) being sure to check that both sides are sitting even. You will need to tighten the springs a few extra turns to ensure the bridge remains seated while bending strings, etc. For normal 2-way tremolo functionality, these types of bridges can be set approximately 1/8” off of the body.
